One basic way agencies can demonstrate digital chops to a potential client? Find him or her on Twitter. That’s the lesson to be learned from JetBlue’s senior VP-marketing and commercial, Marty St. George (who will be speaking on June 14 at TWTRCON NY), who decided to test agencies currently vying for the airline’s marketing account with this tweet: “We’re pitching our advertising AOR. 'Max the Tampax' Mobile Social Campaign Designed to Connect With Teens

Procter & Gamble has created a mobile social campaign designed to strike down young girls’ prejudices about tampons and educate them about the benefits of its Tampax brand, while leveraging the intimacy of the mobile phone and the adding viral elements to leverage teen girls’ propensity to share.

P&G tapped mobile marketing agency Phonevalley and media planning company Starcom MediaVest Group for the launch of the Tampax mobile campaign to reach girls ages 13-17 in France.  It supports a Web campaign launched to promote the character of “Max the Tampax” and create a community around him on the Skyrock.com Web site.

Coffee Company Blends E-Commerce With Marketing On Facebook

Coffee store on FacebookFew companies so far have tried turning their brand pages on Facebook into online storefronts. Facebook pages been used almost exclusively as marketing tools — to build brand awareness generally, or to help drive traffic for specific promotions or special deals offline or on their main sites. But not to actually sell stuff directly.

Taking that rare step is Equator Estate Coffees & Teas, which is launching an online store on its Facebook page allowing fans to buy artisanal coffees without leaving the site.

H&R Block’s new social-media plan has at its core a 1,000-member tax-professional team, chosen from 100,000 H&R employees across the country, who have been “social-media-qualified.” The tax team will answer questions directly, but also will “listen” in to concerns or problems being discussed within communities and forums and respond accordingly.

How Saatchi & Saatchi’s Toyota Social Media Disaster Unfolded

An online backlash is growing against a smutty Toyota ad featuring a girl’s father and boyfriend having an innuendo-laden discussion about taking her virginity and “having her on her back” .  The video was the winner of a Toyota-endorsed competition, the Clever Film Competition, which was organised by Saatchi & Saatchi. The running of the competition was the ad agency’s entry into Toyota’s live social media pitch which saw five social media campaigns being run for the Toyota Yaris.
